An update for The Slider Project’s event in Hood River. A whole host of international riders rolled into town to help finish the crews build and to ride. With a number of rails and kickers in Hood River now, the main focus was on finishing up and christening the new Airush ‘big box’ which is a 60 ft fun box with a top ledge rail and wall ride on one side.
The riders have been working relentlessly to get the big box completed in time and it rolled out into place at the sand bar on Friday afternoon. We’ll keep you updated on the action as it goes down and have some audio interviews from the Slider Project crew and the riders soon. stay tuned.

A recap of the final day- The clouds rolled in but the wind and, finally, the swell was on. What the wave riders had been waiting all week for, finally arrived. A morning slick style session in some strong and gusty winds and then a 1-5pm session at pier 27, a short 5 minute drive from the Real center. Riders we’re greeted with side off wind and a sweet little beach break with some good sets coming through.
Ian Alldredge and Reo Stevens, both frothing for waves, we’re second on the water after local Sam Bell.
The waves were waist to shoulder high rights, with smooth faces and Ian Alldredge was right at home pulling all varieties of moves except the air reverses due to the wind strength.
All the riders we’re getting some good hits, Mauricio riding backside and getting in some good hits.
Reo Stevens sneaked out to steal a few waves leaving his straps on the beach. Sam Bell was ripping as was Davey Blair with some super laid back lip smacks.
Kevin Langeree opted for straps and was boosting off the waves with backrolls back onto the wave face and flat 3’s back onto the wave.
The girls we’re also getting in on the action with Brazilian Clarissa Hempel leading the charge. Other stand outs in the waves were Andre Phillip and of course Florida’s Jon Modica who took second in the surf event this year.
Thanks to the Real crew for putting on a killer event. Check out the riders interviews and shots below.
We’re now hard at work getting issue 7 wrapped up, it’ll drop in just over a weeks time so not long for you to see all the best shots from the SSS along with an action packed issue!
Spread the word and thanks for the ongoing support.

Well it’s the end of the Real Triple S. Such a great kiteboarding event and it went out with bang! All the voting was done in a private room. Each category had 5 rankings to place the best riders. This year the ability gap was extremely narrow. All of the riders worked on their riding over the season and will continue on for more events to come. The poll closed at 7pm just in time to start partying throughout the night. The BBQ was pumping out some great ribs while Dub Island Sound System was bumping music for the second night. The results are out. Give these guys and girls some props because I think it is well deserved. Start throwing it down or collect footage for next year’s wild card entries!
Check out tomorrow’s post for the action shot update including wave winner, Ian Alldredge, as well as interviews with Dre and Mauricio Abreu, Dylan and Joby Cook, Susi and Tom Court, Bruna and Clarissa Hempel are coming up.

A brand new day of kiting and everyone was refreshed and ready to hit the rails from new angles. Today, the John Wayne A frame aka “Big Wayne” was switched around to a goofy (right foot forward) approach. The “Lil Wayne” flat bar was moved in between the island and the dock for some really good stylish hits. Dylan Thompson applied the pressure with some snowboard style that some riders never seen before. Greg Norman Jr. continues to come in with crazy speed with the kite super low. Davey Blair was matching up on the flat bar with technical tricks behind his new kites.
With the gustier conditions the “Big Wayne” was a trickier hit today. Joby Cooks’ tail press, blistering speed approaches by Aaron Hadlow, Dre Phillip, Sam Bell, and Ruben Lenten and Brandon Scheids’ back tail scratched the surface of what was done. Susi, Bruna, and Clarissa were hitting the obstacles all afternoon with the guys showing a variety of boardslides and passing off the rails.
